The Dhaka Bypass Expressway Advancing Infrastructure- Constructing Solutions for Capital Congestion
The Dhaka Bypass Expressway, Bangladesh's first fully access-controlled highway, is poised to significantly transform regional connectivity and alleviate severe traffic congestion in and around Dhaka. This *48-kilometer, four-lane expressway, complete with parallel service roads, creates a crucial bypass route linking Joydebpur (Gazipur) to Madanpur (Narayanganj). It strategically connects four major national highways (N1, N2, N3, N4), diverting through-traffic and heavy commercial vehicles from the bustling capital. The project, developed under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model with an overall investment of approximately BDT *3,500-3,723 crore, has achieved over 65% physical progress and seen partial sections temporarily opened to traffic during recent Eid holidays in 2025, demonstrating its impending impact despite facing land acquisition challenges and cost escalations.
