A MILESTONE IN BANGLADESH’S INFRASTRUCTURE: First Under-River Tunnel in South Asia

The Karnaphuli Export Processing Zone (KEPZ), located in North Patenga, Chattogram, is the second EPZ established in Bangladesh's port city. Developed on the former site of the Chittagong Steel Mill, KEPZ officially opened in 2006 under the jurisdiction of the Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority (BEPZA). It covers an area of approximately *209.04 acres and offers 258 industrial plots. KEPZ has grown into a major hub for export-oriented manufacturing, housing enterprises that produce a diverse range of items including ready-made garments, tents, leather goods, bicycles, furniture, and shoes. As of recent figures, the zone has attracted a significant cumulative investment of US$ *765.63 million and created employment for over *75,000 workers, capitalizing on its strategic location near the Chattogram Port and Airport for efficient global shipments.
