Maulana Bhashani Bridge: Built to Strengthen Northern Road Network

The Maulana Bhashani Bridge, a *1,490-meter-long PC girder bridge over the Teesta River, officially opened on *August 20, 2025. It was constructed under the supervision of the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED). The bridge is a vital infrastructure project that is expected to significantly reduce travel time and distance, particularly for those traveling between Kurigram and Dhaka. With its connecting roads, the bridge reduces the travel distance between these two districts by approximately *135 kilometers and cuts travel time by up to three and a half hours, while also providing a new transport corridor that reduces the distance between Kurigram and other key destinations in the south by *40 to *60 kilometers. This much-awaited bridge is expected to play a vital role in improving the transportation of agricultural goods and boosting the socio-economic conditions of the northern districts. In addition, local residents and news reports have highlighted that the bridge is anticipated to boost regional trade, tourism, and industrial production, providing a vital link between previously isolated communities. It is also expected to facilitate faster and more cost-effective transportation of goods, expand the region's education system, and create new employment opportunities, thereby contributing to the overall development and prosperity of the area.
