Rajshahi Water Plant Project to End City's Water Woes, Ushering in Era of Safe Drinking Water from Padma River
The "Rajshahi WASA Surface Water Treatment Plant Project" is a major infrastructure initiative designed to provide a sustainable and safe drinking water supply to the city and its surrounding areas. Owned by the Rajshahi Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (RWASA), the project is being implemented by the Chinese firm Hunan Construction Engineering Group. The plant, which will draw water from the Padma River, is designed to produce *200 million liters of purified water daily. As of mid-2025, the project is actively under construction, with physical work progressing towards a scheduled completion and operational date of *2027. This plant is expected to significantly reduce the city's heavy reliance on depleting groundwater sources, thereby addressing critical public health and environmental concerns.
